Ama Police

It is a community oriented initiative of Odisha Police which involves equal participation of citizens such as neighborhood groups along with Police. It has been started with the following objectives.

  1. Prevention of Crimes.
  2. Furthering co-operation and mutual understanding between Police and the community.
  3. Furthering Security-related mutual co-operation among citizenry.
  4. House Visit’ by the CPO – acts as a ‘linking pin’ between the community and Police Station
  5. Community empowerment & empowerment of the constabulary
  6. Reduced trust-deficit between community and police, free-flow of information
  7. Synergy of Community resources in crime prevention
  8. Better sense of security
  9. Helps strengthening internal security

  3. Vulnerable sections especially women feel empowered.
  4. Issues affecting the community like drunkenness, gambling, street fights, eve teasing, loitering, wife beating etc. have reduced significantly.
  5. Inflow of information regarding crime has improved.
  6. Public appreciates the problems being faced by police.
  7. Accessibility of Police to people and vice-versa has increased.
  8. Public support in handling important law and order problem and communal situation has been garnered.
  9. People’s participation in civic activities has increased eg. evening patrolling, street lighting, bush cutting, jal chatra, sports activities.

Right to Public Services:

The Odisha Right to Public Services Act, 2012 in Odisha is an exemplary initiative by the State Government to check corruption in public service delivery. The law enables the citizens to demand public services as a right and also includes a provision for penal action against officials failing to provide the services within the stipulated time.

Grievance Cell:-

Grievance Cell is functioning in DHRPC at the District Police Hdqrs, Koraput to hear and redress the public grievance in Koraput district. This is in addition to the regular grievance redressal that happens at police station level and during beats and regular patrolling. There is an avenue for general public to redress their grievances directly to the SP at any working day. The purpose of grievance redressal mechanism functioning at district police Headquarters is to ensure that common citizens who feel aggrieved about any issue related to law and order, security and safety can raise it with the highest office of Police in the district. In many cases it is also treated as an appellate body for grievances from the police station level. Joint Grievances are also conducted by District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, on each Monday in different locations of Koraput District.
