FORENSIC SCIENCE REFERS TO THE APPLICATION OF SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND METHODOLOGY TO LEGAL PROBLEMS AND CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION.
The District Forensic Science Laboratory, Koraput came to existence within the premises of District Police Headquarters, Koraput in the year 1997. Since then it has been working parallely with the Investigating Officers and delivering aid to the scientific collection and undertaking examination of physical evidences from the scene of crime.
It assists the Investigating Officer with utmost sincerity, dedication, perseverance and ease in resolving cases pertaining to murder, rape, dacoity, burglary, arson, dowry death cases etc. It has also been rendering support in chemical examination and generating liquor examination reports.
The Scientific team consisting of Scientific Officer, Laboratory Assistant, Fingerprint expert, Photographer and Laboratory Attendant reach to the crime scene in mobile forensic unit vehicle along with equipments for locating, recording and processing the physical evidences at the crime scene.
It provides expert opinion thereof for administration of justice besides keeping pace with the modernized criminals and to meet their challenges in the time ahead.
All the exhibits are being forwarded to the State Forensic Science Laboratory, Bhubaneswar/ Regional Forensic Science laboratory, Berhampur for chemical examination and expert opinion.
